What Are High Tech
ACC Devices?

Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) refers to a method of communication that can be used as an alternative to (or in addition to) “typical” speech.
As the name would imply, high tech AAC devices are those with a heavy reliance on technology to improve communication capabilities. This includes:

  • ipads with eye gaze or pointing features
  • speech generating devices
High tech AAC can be used in addition to verbal communication methods. Where you or your child does not acquire speech, high ACC devices can be used as a regular means of communication in your day-to-day life.

We offer:

Assessment of AAC needs
Support for communication device hire/trials
Education/training in AAC system use
Programming of high tech AAC
Low or no tech options (i.e. gestures, facial expressions, keyword signs, pictures etc)

We provide service for:

People with disabilities who require high tech AAC for short term periods
People with disabilities who require high tech AAC devices for long-term periods
Contact us today to find out if you (or your child) meet our intake requirements.

How do we provide
High Tech AAC?

Assess your communication needs in the places you need to communicate
Assess a vocabulary and language system that meets your current and future needs
Work with you and your support team and/or loved ones to determine how you will access your preferred method
Organise a device trial and complete NDIS funding applications

Frequently Asked Questions

Want to know more about high tech AAC devices? We’ve answered some of the most common questions asked by clients and their family members, in an effort to be as clear and transparent as possible.
But if your question isn’t answered below, you can always get in touch with us by phoning 0439 348 174 or online.

Are augmentative and alternative communication systems lazy?

This is one of the most frequent concerns people have when it comes to discussing alternative forms of communication, especially that of a child in the early stages of language development.

But in our experience, high tech alternative and augmentative communication (high tech AAC) does not make you or your child “lazy”. In fact, research suggests that (when used correctly), these tools will not hinder speech development but rather introduce or support communication competence.

I’ve been approved for an alternative and augmentative communication (high tech AAC) device through NDIS. Can you assist me in my application for the right technology?

Of course! At More2Tell Speech Pathology, one of our specialties is working with children or adults who receive NDIS funding for sessions or device applications.
Simply get in touch with Jenelle, our speech pathologist,  via the online form or by giving us a call, and we’ll discuss your individual requirements.

Do you assist with the implementation of low tech AAC devices?

We certainly do. Visit this page for more information or contact us directly.

Do you have a clinic I can attend?

No. We offer a mobile service, meaning we come directly to you. This can be in your home, day service, school* or child care centre.
*Access to school visits will depend on your circumstances and the individual school.

What are your intake requirements?

Please note we only accept a limited number of referrals at a time, and prioritise those linked with the NDIS. We are passionate about providing services to individuals with complex communication needs (little or no speech) that may be associated with the following diagnoses and/or genetic conditions:
